Championing Reading: Our Library Visits!
Promoting reading and exploring our local libraries!
Our amazing Learning Facilitators are championing fun and innovation in approaches to reading. Since the day she joined our team, Kitty has been tirelessly promoting the library and alternative ways for our students to access literature, in formats best suited for their needs; including using the free app 'Borrow Box' where young people can download audiobooks and listen offline.
Our classes have been discovering the delights of our local libraries. Nearly everyone in class 3JS has their own library card and has visited three local libraries and borrowed books to read in class. The librarians were very kind and showed us how to reserve books and how to use the LibrariesWest website to search for books and order them from other libraries.
We’ve also learnt that library membership means we can bring home books to share with our siblings and even if they get lost or damaged, the library won’t charge us.
Our teachers said, "It’s been fantastic to see the students finding books that really capture their interest: not only are they borrowing books on WW2, dinosaurs, Sonic the Hedgehog, and ninjas but also gang membership and the pressures on young people today. One student has been so engrossed we’ve actually had to tell him to stop reading on more than one occasion!"
